Norman Harper was a young man with a dream. A dream to own his own business. In the early 1920’s, while he was working in the textile industry, an opportunity arose to start his own wholesale business. In 1924 Norman borrowed $100 and founded J.N. Harper Co. Through hard work and determination, he survived the depression and rationing during the war.
Joined by his sons, Ralph and Bruce, J.N. Harper continued to expand, both regionally and in the breadth of product, through the 1950’s to 1970’s.
In the late 1970’s the third generation, Gary Harper (Ralph’s son), joined the business and J.N. Harper expanded into women’s apparel to complement their men’s collections.
Harper’s is now a fourth generation business as Michael Harper has joined his father Gary in the business.
Harper’s converts and distributes fabrics ranging from fine apparel, exquisite Italian shirtings, a full range of interfacings, as well as a full complement of products for the quilting industry – batiks, cotton prints, excellent basics and batting.
The Harper’s logo is our grandfather’s and great grandfather’s signature. We are committed to upholding those values he maintained over a long life at J.N. Harper.
